Another one of the best movies ever! We just recorded it off HBO.

Yes! This movie felt to me like one of the great tragedies. Technically it isn't a tragedy, but I had that sense of catharsis I get after watching a wonderful classical tragedy--wrung out and peaceful. This seemed to me such a "real" movie. The characters didn't seem to be acting. We just eavesdropped on their lives. I love Lassa Halstrom films. And Leonard and Johnny were terrific in this. As was everybody actually.

What a great job you did with this one! And Nancy is right: one of the best movies ever.

Lasse Halstrom is a wonderful director. Have you seen The Shipping News, with Kevin Spacey and Julianne Moore? I love that movie.

Thank you. I do so much love this movie. I have the DVD. I can't watch it too often or I'll emotionally overload. But wow!

I haven't seen The Shipping News. I'm such a cultural illiterate. If it didn't happen before the 20th century, I didn't catch it. But after realizing that two of my favourite JD movies had the same director, I swore I would eventually see all of Lasse's stuff. When I have time. Ha!

It's funny if you look up his filmography on RottenTomatoes.com, The Shipping News isn't rated very high (and I loved it, as I said), but My Life As A Dog is 100% fresh, and that's one I didn't care for.

Am working on a return email. Gimme a couple of minutes...

You can never tell with reviews. Everybody's got an opinion, and it might depend on how much sleep the reviewer got before he or she saw the movie. There's no accounting for taste. I'll have to see them both someday. *Adds to lightyear long to-do list*

Chiming in here...I also liked 'Shipping News'. I like just about anything with Kevin Spacey in it though :)

I think this is my favourite movie that Johnny stars in. It's just so very real. I'm glad you enjoyed this. Thank you.
