Date: 2006-05-12 06:11 am (UTC)I have that picture on my wall, and it's quite wonderful to see how you've made his face more youthful and somehow very Jack here, not de Marco at all.

Date: 2006-05-12 12:50 pm (UTC)This is just beautiful! Wonderful, wonderful job taking something from DJDM and breathing just a completely different essence into it.
Okay, three of my favorite details, right off the bat: those little frown lines; you've got so much intensity in someone so youthful with that expression.
Second (this is going to sound strange) there's something the shirt that makes him look...smaller. In a sweet way. Like you've taken it beyond billowy to oversized. It looks like he hasn't grown into his clothes yet, and it just captures him so perfectly.
Third -- and you have to know what I'm gonna say here -- the hands. Oh my goodness, honorat, those hands. You do something with hands in your pictures, girl, that just *boggles* me. And in this one...I love the inclusion of the ring. That's classic. I just adore the way he's holding them here. Even in a still portrait, you've got him talking with his hands! **claps** I love it! There's so much vulnerability in that little fidgety gesture.
Wow. Fabulous. The mood you convey is perfect. And I have to tell you as well, dear, between the mouth and the collarbone and the stomach...felony, felony...and felony. (Maybe I was wrong when I said he was seventeen. Maybe he was eighteen. I think he had a birthday while he was in hiding. I'm almost sure of it.);)
(BTW, I know I have catching up to do on reviewing, for you as well as others, and I'm really not ignoring you guys, but I've been on a tear with the next bit of TWoW, and I'm hitting it hard because it's almost ready for posting. I've got that final-paragraphs-frenzy thing going on, and my muse's shoeprint in my rear end.)

Date: 2006-05-12 02:58 pm (UTC)As for his clothes, there's not a lot of detail in the photo ref, but I couldn't resist the cufflink--I just put a wee bird on it.
And Johnny's hands are too sinfully delicious--so expressive. I love drawing them. This picture just fit your story so well that I couldn't resist. And I just changed Don Juan's ring for Jack Sparrow's. Couldn't resist that either.
I told you this one would be hot! I'm sure it counts that the model for the drawing was over eighteen! LOL! If not, enjoy your felony. I'm sure some crimes are worth it.
More TWoW! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! All long silences are forgiven if they bring us more TWoW! I myself am unconscionably behind in reviewing. *bounces around impatient for more Bill and Jack and Will!* And may I say that Bootstrap's role in PotC2 is looking fabulous. I cannot wait! *Encourages muse's foot with promises of chocolate*

Date: 2006-05-12 06:33 pm (UTC)There, now that I've calmed down, what a wonderful sight to find first thing in the morning. The expression is not quite Jack, not yet as we know him, but the hands make the picture. The hands are vintige Jack and hint at what he will grow up to be. Stunning.

Date: 2006-05-12 06:52 pm (UTC)Enjoy your morning. Yes, this is Jack before he is a pirate, and while he's very close to a traumatic experience. This picture always struck me as what young Jack would have looked like--and those elegant, expressive, always moving hands are definitely worthy of Captain Sparrow. I'm so glad you liked this. Thank you.

It's absolutely, drop dead, sit up and drool, turn to mush, curls your toes, fan-self, cold shower needed, lovely. The eyes, the hands, the.... *pants*... chest mmmm... mmmuscles... *groans. The hair blowing and curling into his face. The intinsity of his gaze and somehting more... a kind of uncertainty and haunted look. It all culminates into the best picture I've ever seen of Johnny in character. It's definitly a combination of DJDM and his Jumpstreet years, with an added tormented look.
*shakes head* I don't know how you do it, mate, but this is amazing. Time and again, you never cease to amaze. BRAVO!
And, by the by, this is absolutely ICON worthy; must make Icon, only I'm not verse in such things. Maybe someone out there can, with artists permission, and I bet it's the most sought after Icon on LJ once you do...
PS: Will get a review up for the latest update of CtB. RL is being a bit of a butt at present.

Date: 2006-05-13 12:41 am (UTC)I'm delighted that this fits your idea of the character. I can make pictures the right size for icons, but I don't know how to put text on them or borders or anything. Perhaps
I'm afraid CtB is not being very happy at the moment. The muse is a tyrant.
Thanks for such an enthusiastic comment. You made my day.

Date: 2006-05-16 08:10 pm (UTC)P.S. One little question: wouldn't you like to draw the Pearl in all her glory one day? I've searched the whole bloody Internet and all I found is few little pics of poor quality and she doesn't even have her sails on them! Maybe you'd think about it, wouldn't you?:)

Date: 2006-05-16 09:04 pm (UTC)I would love to draw the Black Pearl, but I too have discovered that it is hard to find good, clear pictures of her. A fully rigged ship is not one of those things I can draw without a reference, so perhaps there will be some better pictures in the new movie that I can use.
Thanks for commenting.
