Disclaimer: Oh, Disney is the power in these waters, true enough, but there’s no writers as can match we fanfic writers for speed.
Summary: Jack is about to be hanged. Uber angst. Sequel to "For Remembrance". This is an actual Drabble! For the "Believe" challenge at Black Pearl Sails.

The moment he had never really believed would come had arrived.
As the rough hemp chafed his neck, Jack turned his head and met Elizabeth’s wide dark eyes across the eager crowd. She had come, as she had promised. Always a woman of her word, Miss Swann. Her face was pale, but she did not look away.
So good, not to be alone.
He turned back to face out over the battlements to the sea that owned his soul. Time to play out on this wooden stage the final scene of the last act of the legend of Captain Jack Sparrow.

Date: 2005-09-02 10:20 pm (UTC)I just found this journal earlier in the week, and I am very pleased that I did, because I'm loving every bit of your writing! It's making the wait for the second movie that much more bearable...
I've now caught up and read everything you've posted, and I felt I ought to review. Your storytelling ability, attention to detail, characterization... everything is simply stunning. :) I keep checking back every day, and even just now while I was reading the third chapter of "Aboard the Dauntless", you came and posted this! I'm so happy!
Brilliant drabble... especially that line So good, not to be alone. Very true. I like how it ties in with "For Remembrance" also (glad I read them in order!). Watching that gallows scene always makes me wonder... what must go through a person's head when they just KNOW they're going to die in a moment? It must be horrifying. I must say, Jack handles it all quite well (and I'm certainly glad he escaped!).
I look forward to all your future work! Thanks so much for sharing all this with the public!
(And one more thing - your disclaimers always make me giggle. I just love how you take quotes from the movie and tweak them to fit...)

I'm glad to know you enjoyed this drabble. That scene in the movie seemed to combine so much tension between Jack's blithe trust in his luck and the truly dreadful situation he is in. Denial or courage or both? But there had to be a moment when he must have feared that this was it. After all, that lever was thrown. He had no reason to expect anything at the end of that drop other than death. Certainly his behaviour on that gallows was worthy of his legend. And how like Jack to play it out to the bitter end.
My disclaimers are a great amusement to me, so it's nice to know others notice them too.
Thank you for dropping in and commenting.
