Summary: After Elizabeth leaves him belowdecks on the Interceptor, Will contemplates the implications of his actions. For the “Pirates” challenge at Black Pearl Sails.

No heroes among thieves, he had accused Jack. No. Nor honour either. But was there any honour among respectable men? For he, Will Turner, had surely left Jack Sparrow to die among those bloodthirsty pirates in the caverns of Isla de Muerta.

Did it matter that Jack had planned to use him as leverage—to barter for the Black Pearl with the blood of Bootstrap Bill Turner’s son? Did that excuse Will’s own actions? He had betrayed a man. Struck him unconscious. Made no attempt to rescue him. Lied to the crew of the Interceptor. Sparrow had kept his promise, had taken Will to Elizabeth as he had sworn to do “on pain of death.” But death would not be Jack’s punishment for breaking his word; it would be his reward for keeping it.

“I thought you were a pirate,” Elizabeth had said. “That would have been terrible.” But he was a pirate—the son of a pirate with the broken honour of a pirate. “Pirate is in your blood, boy.” The words reverberated in his mind. “Pirate is in your blood.” Jack had been right.

Oh, Will, Will ... bless his little heart. Very nice double-drabble, Honorat, catching Will perfectly.

Yes, Will is a confused boy in this movie. He's having to do too many things he doesn't believe in in order to do things he can't help doing. Poor Will indeed. I've been writing a lot of Will lately, so he's on my mind. Thank you for the comment.

I think this calls for an, "Aaaawww!!!" Poor Will... poor, rash, 'bloody stupid' Will. *loves* But I think we can agree that he pretty much redeems himself in the end, what with that daring and utterly hilarious escape... ^_~

Glad to see this one; the movie never really shows Will's reaction to that "Pirate is in your blood" line, aside from his facial expression.

I forget if I've mentioned this in a review or not, but ever since I saw PotC, I've wondered what exactly Jack's original plan WAS... granted, there wouldn't have been a movie if he'd just gotten to go along with it (and perhaps the writers couldn't even think of one... it got lost in the plot hole; so it goes), but I still wish I could think of something plausible...

*rambling* Wonderful, as usual! (So was the gossip one! Snooty people thinking they know what true happiness is... grr!)

Oh yes, I've got lots of plans for young master William. I'm in the process of writing the meeting of Will and Jack. Such fun. Will has to be thinking that his pirate blood will end any hope he might have had with Elizabeth. Talk about a class barrier.

I can probably come up with a plan for Jack. I wonder if I should. It is a curiousity, since he seems to think that he can manage it without Will's death when he talks to Elizabeth on the island.

I'm glad you liked this and my gaggle of gossips piece. There are always some of those types of people in every bunch.

Thanks for the comments.

It is a curiousity, since he seems to think that he can manage it without Will's death when he talks to Elizabeth on the island. That was my thought, too - I can't get my head around it. Barbossa definitely would have killed Will - he didn't any need for the 'whelp' after the curse was lifted, unlike with Elizabeth. *shudders* Love Barbossa to death, but I'm very glad Elizabeth got out unscathed...

But yes, I can't think how Jack would have done it... except maybe in a similar way as to the end of the movie? He takes the coin, joins in the curse, distracts Barbossa while Will cuts his hand and ends the curse, he kills Barbossa... trouble with that is two things, though:
1. the entire crew of the Black Pearl was in the cave at that point, and
2. if he needed Will's cooperation, he would've needed to tell him what to do

So I'm not really sure how that'd work... *ponders*

If I were to write this, I'd head in the direction Jack was going when he was bargaining with Barbossa on the Black Pearl. You know. Give me the ship and the medallion and I'll toss it back to you with the appropriate blood on it. Jack wasn't wanting Will to show up while he negotiated with Barbossa. I think the revenge would have to wait. The Pearl always seemed more important to Jack.

Hmmm... that's true... See, this is why I read your stuff instead of trying to write stuff myself! XDDD (No, I did attempt to write one PotC fic but it went off in a really lousy direction and I discontinued put it on hiatus... *cough*)

I'm glad you approve of my solution. This is one of the things I really enjoy about novelizing. Filling all the plot holes.

Well, he should be bothered by what he did to Jack. I love how you have what he did run 'round in his head, chased by Jack's words, and placing this crisis of conscience here, building the fury that causes him to slam the medallion on the table is magnificent!

Yes, Will has to know he's behaved very shabbily. Especially if Jack was really trustworthy. Although it's obvious when he negotiates with Barbossa that Will still doesn't trust Jack. Will has been another of those "peas in a pod" who are willing to do whatever is necessary. I'm glad you like the timing of this one. Thank you.
