Really, PotC has some amazing actors: Johnny Depp, Jack Davenport, and Kiera Knightly, and really Mackenzie Crook. Those really stand out to me as people who completely inhabit their roles until even their feet are in character all the time.

I love not taking sides. In "Crossing" I tried to have Norrington shoot Jack's ship to bits and still not make him a villain. It's so much more interesting. As the proverb goes: To understand is to forgive. And I'm really into understanding.

As for Jack in DMC, you really should read the discussion virgo_79 and I had in her journal. It's the last thing she's posted there, so it should be easy to find. It took me more than ten comments thanks to LJ's limit, but we discussed what we liked and didn't like about the movie--although I'm the kind of person who is really hard to make not like something. I guess as a Literature major, I had to learn ways into all sorts of uncongenial texts until I can go to almost anything and find a way to enjoy it or enjoy analyzing it. But do read those little short shots of mine and see if they don't help.
