Once again, you've masterfully captured Norrington's emotions here. James Norrington had the grace to be ashamed, both of his tacit willingness to leave Will to his fate, and for his underestimation of Elizabeth’s courage and loyalty. Perfect. Just perfect. I firmly believe James Norrington to be a good man, he's just trapped by the confines of duty (at least in CotBP). I love how agreeing to rescue will brought him closer to his idea of that duty rather than away from it, and that it was Elizabeth's courage and conviction that swayed him more than her actual offer. The irony is beautiful.

I don't know how you paint a very unflattering yet forgiving picture of governor swann, but somehow you manage it, and I salute you.

I love Norrington's reminiscing about meeting Elizabeth, and how their friendship progressed, and how he came to love her (or at least the idea of her, and of loving of her) through that friendship. There's a great fic in there somewhere (hint hint).

I loved the Norrington/Elizabeth scene. You took a few lines of film and made them heartbreakingly tragic. Poor James, he knows that she doesn't love him, but he has so much hope fettered with so much doubt. And Elizabeth knows she's done him wrong, and while she's sorry for that she'd do it again it means saving Will. It's a great character study for her. I have to wonder if the writers for DMC read your fics when recrafting her character, because I see a lot of your version of her in the film. Too bad they didn't use enough of your Jack, too.
