Yes, Governor Swann is not quite ready to relinquish his dream. But in a sense, he's right. Elizabeth and James and Jack are all willing to do what is necessary, but they've got different definitions of what is worth that price. For Norrington, it's his duty, but for Elizabeth, it's her love, and for Jack, it's his freedom.

I did decide there's no way the daughter of the governor would know more about the strategy of a sea battle than a shipload of pirates unless she'd had some instruction. I'm glad you found my theories of how that came about logical.
