Summary: Jack is getting itchy feet. Anamaria has to make a decision. For the “Drift” Challenge at Black Pearl Sails.

She has noticed that the charts on the captain’s table have been of the South China Sea. And his eyes, always drawn to the horizon, have an even farther away look than usual. It won’t be long, she expects, before he orders the Pearl’s sails set for the dawn and the fabled treasure of the Orient.

Jack Sparrow is no empire builder. For him, it is the adventure that calls--to drift ahead of the scudding clouds wherever the wind wishes to take him.

Soon she will have to choose whether she will remain in these familiar ports or follow her legendary captain into undiscovered seas.

I like this so much, particularly as it could be a prelude to [livejournal.com profile] tessabeth's Trochal and Malabar Trade, which are set in that part of the world.

Jack Sparrow is no empire builder. For him, it is the adventure that calls--to drift ahead of the scudding clouds wherever the wind wishes to take him.

That's why the Pearl is his greatest treasure.

Beautiful.

Well, not exactly, but a friend. Hi! I'm glad you liked this.

Yes, I was reading about people like Henry Morgan who wanted to control the Caribbean, and it just seemed to me so the opposite of Jack. And while it's fun to write about Jack running about the Caribbean and bothering the Navy and visiting friends, I think he'd really just go wherever he felt like. After all, he's obviously sailed the territory of the East India Company before. I'm glad you liked this. I'll have to check out the recommended stories.

Well they are slash, I must warn you, but those, and their prequel, Picaresque are my favorite PotC stories ever.

I really love this. Even more than usual. Short and sweet (I admire a talent for brevity, as it's not one of mine.) I like Ana's insight into her Captain's soul. Favorite bits: sails set for the dawn and drift ahead of the scudding clouds.

Here you were commenting on my drabble while I was commenting on yours :D I'm so glad you liked this. I usually can't keep these anywhere near a 100 words. But this one I did try. Jack's wanderlust is one of the lovely things about the man, and I enjoyed trying to capture it. Thanks for the kind words.

Ha...not that mine can call itself a drabble. I'm trying to catch up on my commenting tonight.

Jack's wanderlust is such an essential part of his character, and you've captured it beautifully.

I just had a drabble get away and become three pages long. They do have a tendency to blow up, don't they. I'm not complaining at all that yours did.

I like the lines Jack Sparrow is no empire builder. For him, it is the adventure that calls--to drift ahead of the scudding clouds wherever the wind wishes to take him. Nicely done!

*Sigh* So lovely, and so true. Jack is really all about the adventure, and what's over the next horizon. But this would make a great teaser to a larger story about the Pearl sailing to unknown ports. This sounds like Ana but it could be Elizabeth as well - intresting.

Jack's adventures--if only one had worlds enough and time to write about them. *sigh* The "familiar ports" is probably what makes this most Anamaria. For Elizabeth, I imagine even the ports of the Caribbean would still be adventure. I guess it would depend when the story was set. I'm glad you liked this.

Oh, so poetic and beautiful! I love the middle paragraph in particular.

That middle line seems to be the winner in this piece. You'll get to do a little of that drifting before the clouds yourself when you sail on the Stavros again. *envy* Thank you for the feedback.

*hendercats sees everyone else in line ahead of her ... dives in anyway*
Love how this line especially captures the feel of "bring me that horizon." Pretty drabble.

Welcome to the pool. I think I know what the best line in this is! Yes, Jack is just meant to chase horizons. Thank you for stopping by to add your vote!
