Summary: My very own Art! I took the photo that I referenced for the palace in the background. (It is originally the Palais de Papes in Avignon.) Something is obviously going on that involves lots of mayhem. More horses! Medieval architecture! Strange costumes! A lot of the detail in this goes missing at this size.

Ooh I really like this one. The setting is dark and your shading certainly captures that. The horse looks amazing, again, and you can feel the tension and excitement in the scene. The castle in the background is very cool! =)

Thank you so much. Every once in awhile, I take a shot at drawing night pictures. They're so much more dramatic. I'm glad the tension comes through. What I liked about the Palais is that it's not the typical Disney fantasy castle--though I've drawn that type too.

I love all the little details to this, the smoke and flame from the torch is awesome! Reminds me of art from a fairy tale book...inspires lots of imagination.

Thank you. It took me awhile to figure out how to get that effect of smoke. Kneaded eraser did the trick. I am highly influenced by fairy tale books. Maybe someone will write me a story to go with my picture!

I love using my kneaded eraser, it is great for highlights in hair too.

Sounds like a drabble challenge to me! LOL

I love the Fantasy genre because it takes you anywhere you can imagine. I love this picture for the same reason. Fairytale castles are wonders to behold.
Have you ever seen Chateau de Chillon in Switzerland? Same sort of fabulous castle.

I'm a long-time devotee of "magic casements opening on the foam of perilous seas in fairylands forlorn." And fantasy art has the advantage that one can put absolutely anything one likes in the picture--no historical, political, geographical, cultural or sartorial accuracy need apply. Castles are indeed wonderful feasts for the eyes and imagination. I've not had the fortune to visit that part of Switzerland, but should I ever get back there I'll have to keep it in mind. *Goes off to Google the chateau* Thank you so much for the comment.

I'm sorry, but I'm on a Art Review rampage of your LJ. *G*

THIS ... Guh! You got the horse's legs right. You got the horse's legs right! *wibble* You have NO idea how many would-be-nice equine art I've seen that are ruint by ill-drawn legs. I've spent way too many years around horses NOT to notice, so I am simply in love with this handsome fellow.

Oh, and the rest of the drawing is quite smashing and dramatic, as well! :-)

I love you for your mind ... and your graphite pencils. :-p

Rampage away! No need to apologize. In fact many thanks.

I know what you mean about horses' legs. So many book covers have horses with beautiful heads and the most improbable anatomy otherwise. I've held far too many horses' legs while the dear beasties experimented with how many thousands of pounds I could bear while picking out their feet not to have a pretty good idea where they bend and where they don't. When I sculpted horses, I'd go out to my horse and run my hands up and down his legs just to feel the shapes of the muscles and tendons.

I'm so glad you liked this. It's always good to hear from another horse person.

I believe I missed this when you posted it. A dramatic scene, the Palace looks great looming there in the background (fascinating place), as does the horse, and I like the sky very much.

Thank you so much for dropping by. The Palais de Papes is a strange building, rather ungainly in some ways but indeed very fascinating and fun to draw. I wanted something different from the standard fantasy castle. I'm glad you liked it.
